Anti- colic diets?

Anti- colic diets?
If you are a mother who is breastfeeding with your baby, and it turns out that he has colic, you have probably already come up with the theory that you have to control what you eat. There is a myth that says everything a mother eats passes through breast milk to her little one. For example, when eating products that generate gases, milk can pass this very particularity. This was the situation in which I found myself when I was breastfeeding my daughter, where all the dairy products, the green vegetables and legumes were taken from me.
However, it is worth seeing if it really is like that. Since today there is no study to corroborate that this is so. Moms have a tendency to blame us when our little one is ill. But in this sense we are not only ourselves, but also society and the false myths that seem to corroborate it.
With my first maternity I remember that I stopped eating everything: cauliflower, green beans, lettuce, chickpeas, lentils ... I ended up that I could only eat rice and chicken. And the truth is, it was very hard because ... hard enough is the postpartum and above to put more obstacles.
There are fewer and fewer articles that talk about how food produces gases, so we understand that little by little we are normalizing and being stricter with what has been verified.

The pediatrician Carlos González (President of ACPAM (Catalan Association for Breast-feeding) said the following:
"Breast milk is the way that babies get used to recognize and appreciate the flavors of the diet. Therefore, the best thing is for the mother to eat everything (of everything she usually eat, of course, you do not need to start in Malay or Nigerian cooking), and so the baby gets used to what she will later eat with his family.

It has not been made, as far as I know, any study on pulses and gases. I do not think it's done, because the myth is so unsustainable that it's not worth doing studies

Legumes produce gases because they contain nonabsorbable polysaccharides that pass into the large intestine, where they are fermented by bacteria. If those polysaccharides are not absorbable, they can not pass into the milk. And the gas itself can not pass into the milk either. The only way to pass from the intestine to the milk would be through the blood: a blood with bubbles and a milk with bubbles. And no, in milk there is no gas. "

Kusi Wawa works with Fisio Lacta, a reference center for baby care in Sabadell; and Carolina, her lactation consultant, tells us the following:
"As for diets, the only thing we have more proof is that it seems that taste can be altered / modified by certain foods, but it does not mean that it is a problem. In principle, the baby is used to the mother's diet even during pregnancy, where through the amniotic fluid she knows the tastes of the mother's diet. Carlos González says that he only knows one that was made about garlic and the result was that the milk smelled like garlic, but the children liked it. So, the information we have right now is that if you can change the flavor but it does not have to bother the child. What is clear is that it does not harm him, on the contrary, it makes him learn to try different flavors of the family diet.
We must be careful to blame when breastfeeding because mothers have a component 'masochist' or 'blame' and when we observe a different behavior in the baby the first thing we usually think is that we have made us for the baby to act like this , and if we tit, thinking if we have eaten or drunk something that can respond to that comment is very frequent. Sometimes we succeed, but in others we are letting other aspects pass. You have to observe the baby and see what other things have been able to influence that behavior (heat, cold, sleep, time between shots, visits, stimuli ... etc). "

The only food that we have evidence that can cause problems with the newborn is the intake of dairy. But it is not a matter of gas generation but a topic of intolerances or allergies to the protein of the cow.

To see if you really have to stop consuming dairy, it will be important to do a test period. Stop taking them for about two weeks and see if their behavior improves. If you do not see an improvement, then the colic certainly does not come from the milk so you can go back to eating it. If you see that you really have fewer episodes of crying, write it down and tell the pediatrician. When you are older and no longer breastfeed, it can be an interesting information when deciding what milk to give you.

It is for this reason that we see that, in any case, the diet of the mother should be changed very little. If you get the feeling that when you eat something different your baby reacts worse, you have to let some time pass and eat it again watching if you have the same reaction. Just like that, you'll know if you're really uncomfortable with the food.

In fact, in Kusi Wawa we believe that colic is not a purely intestinal issue. On the contrary, it is a mixture of intestinal pain with a very emotional component. Babies arrive at the end of the day loaded with stimuli and are tired. They do not know how to manage these sensations and break into desperate crying. This is why it often has little to do with what they eat.

If your baby has colic, the best thing you can do is to:

Follow some very marked routines, which favor the baby's rest
- It takes a lot. Allows the baby to be more relaxed throughout the day
- Perform anti-colic massages during the morning
- When the baby breaks down in tears, apply the Kusi Wawa Method.

The Kusi Wawa method combines the application of heat in the baby's tripita to relieve pain with aromatherapy to relax and contact. By combining all these aspects, the baby relaxes and you will get him to stop suffering.
